Medium
Painting - Encaustic Mixed Media On Wood
Description
This image was inspired by Japanese umbrellas at a vendor's stand. It was created with layers of collaged papers embedded in encaustic medium and enhanced with oil paints and oil pastels.
Encaustic is derived from the Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos). Encaustic medium is made up of natural beeswax and damar resin (crystallized tree sap). The medium can be used alone or pigments can be added to achieve colours. Heat is used throughout the encaustic process, from melting the beeswax to fusing the layers of wax.
